Students have been learning about linear equations. We started by looking at linear equations and discussing how many solutions there are. Students were then able to graph the solutions to a linear equation by creating a table of solutions and graphing them on a coordinate plane. Students moved on to identifying the x and y intercepts of linear equations, both by looking at the graph and by looking at the equation. We then discussed the idea of slope, first by looking at graphs of lines, and then developing the formula to find the slope of the line that goes through two points. Using the skills students had developed so far, they were able to graph linear equations and identify their slopes and y-intercepts. Looking at patterns from equations they had graphed, students recognized where the values of the slope and y-intercept were in the linear equations when they were in slope-intercept form. Now, students are working on identifying the equation of a line based on its graph. Here, students worked together to find the equations of 24 graphs.
