Students have been learning about ratios and rates. They started by writing ratios that represent given situations and determining if two ratios are equivalent. They then learned about rates and how they are used. Students learned about unit rates and have used them to compare two different rates. As a way to practice finding the unit rate for a given rate, students have played unit rate "go-fish." Each card in the deck contains a rate on it, including some unit rates. On their turn, students looked at their hand for rates that were not unit rates, and asked their partner for the unit rate that was equivalent to it. Next, students will be using what they know about ratios to solve proportions.
